KERRY will be without midfielder Anthony Maher for the early stages of the Allianz National League after he damaged his shoulder playing for the University of Limerick in the McGrath Cup, WRITES CLIONA FOLEY.
A college source confirmed yesterday that Maher (right) badly damaged his AC shoulder joint after just 15 minutes of last weekend's opening-round loss to Clare.
He will not need surgery but is expected to be out for four weeks, which is a big blow to both the college and Kerry.
The Kingdom are lined up against Dublin in a repeat of the All-Ireland final in the first round of the league on February 4.
Maher's injury is also expected to keep him out of UL's Sigerson Cup opener against UUJ at the start of next month. UL are managed by ex-Kerry goalie Declan O'Keeffe.
Meanwhile, former Meath boss Eamonn O'Brien was last night reported to have been appointed as an adviser to Monaghan's senior footballers.
