Magical Murray and Quinn combine to floor Donegal

Antrim 2-9
Donegal 1-7
Ulster MFC

Antrim were worthy victors in this low-key curtain raiser in Ballybofey.

The Saffrons were the better team in the opening half and their half-time lead of 1-6 to 0-5 did not do them justice.

Ryan Murray was pulling the strings for Antrim and even though he blazed a third-minute penalty over the bar, he created an opening for Kevin Quinn to find the net on 11 minutes.

The home side relied on the boot of Patrick McBrearty to stay in touch as they played second fiddle at midfield.

Donegal's hopes of a comeback were dashed when Quinn and Murray combined 10 minutes from the end for the former to fire home the visitors' second goal.

The hosts did get a goal back when McBrearty bundled home from close range with five minutes left, but Antrim hit back swiftly with man of the match Murray fisting over to ease their worries.

Donegal did have one other goal chance with McBrearty hitting a post 10 minutes into the second half but apart from that, they never threatened to spoil the Antrim party.

Apart from the excellent Murray, Conor McIlvenny and Quinn, Ryan Lynch and Mark Cunningham also impressed for the winners.
