Laois brush aside Premier challenge
A clinical Laois team cuffed Tipperary aside with the minimum of fuss in a one-sided first round qualifier at O'Moore Park yesterday evening.
Laois had a monopoly on invention, with Ross Munnelly, Darren Strong and Colm Begley particularly impressive. MJ Tierney had been brought in from the cold after being left out of the team that played Dublin and caught the eye too, celebrating his return with the first point after just 25 seconds.
Tipp very nearly hauled themselves right back into it at the start of the second half when substitute Brian Coen slalomed through the Laois defence, but with just Eoin Culliton to beat he shot tamely.
Munnelly was the Laois creator then, as he popped a perfect pass into the path of the charging Begley who smashed past Tipp 'keeper Paul Fitzgerald. That goal put Laois 2-12 to 0-7 ahead and thereafter, whenever Tipp did manage to string together a couple of scores, Laois simply put their foot on the gas again to maintain their advantage.
