Laois blow as Tuohy set to stay in Australia
Hopes Zach Tuohy might one day wear a Laois jersey again have been dealt a blow with the news the Portlaoise man is pursuing Australian citizenship as he considers remaining Down Under after his AFL career has concluded.
Tuohy has been outstanding for Carlton since making his senior debut towards the end of the 2011 season, but his contract and working visa expire at the end of this year. Tuohy intends using the opportunity to apply for joint Australian and Irish citizen status.
"In the early days I always planned on going home (after finishing in AFL), but the longer I stayed here the more and more I liked it," Tuohy said.
"I still may go home, but I'd rather give myself the option that if I wanted to stay here at the end of it, I could."
