Ladies Football: DCU won the O'Connor Cup for a third successive year

DCU won the O'Connor Cup for a third successive year in dramatic fashion at University of Limerick yesterday.

In a repeat of last year's final, University of Ulster Jordanstown were left disappointed once again as DCU earned a 3-8 to 1-11 victory.

But UUJ missed a penalty in the dying seconds when a goal would have taken the game into extra-time, with Becky Walsh saving Aoife McDonnell's effort.

DCU scored two goals early in the second half after trailing 1-5 to 1-4 at the break.

Five unanswered points brought UUJ back to within a point, but DCU held their nerve, despite having Sinead O'Mahony sin-binned in the 46th minute.

Meanwhile, Waterford IT made up for last year's final defeat with a 1-8 to 1-6 victory against IT Tralee in the Giles Cup final.

Carlow IT beat DCU's second string 2-11 to 1-3 in the Lynch Cup final.
