Kille gives Fermanagh edge in Breffni thriller
Fermanagh 1-12 Cavan 1-10
Supersub Daniel Kille came off the bench to fire Fermanagh to a crucial victory after an exciting encounter at Breffni Park.
Kille coolly slotted home five minutes from time after the Cavan 'keeper brought down Paul Ward when the two battled for a high delivery.
In a fractured tie, the sides were evenly-matched throughout and were level on seven occasions in the first half.
Cavan did most of the running early on, even though they lost half-back Damien Reilly to a straight red card in only the seventh minute.
Midfielders Martin McGrath and Shane Lyons also fuelled Fermanagh's cause, notching the pick of the first-half points.
In a game that crackled, but never caught fire, Ward's free put the visitors in front for the first time, 0-8 to 0-7, and in the second-half driving seat.
Ward's third free of the evening left Cavan trailing by 0-10 to 0-7 after 41 minutes and needing a much greater cutting edge.
Instead, it was the Fermanagh fans who were left to raise the rafters with Tommy McElroy firing over a textbook, long-range point in the 51st minute.
However, points from Gearoid McKiernan and Niall McDermott (free) left Cavan trailing by 0-10 to 0-11 just after the hour mark.
Kille's spot-kick put his side 1-11 to 0-10 in front, but Cavan got a lift with the late dismissals of Fermanagh's Barry Owens and Declan McCluskey.
However, while Dunne converted from the penalty spot, it was a classic case of too little, too late for the Breffni side.
