Johnston haul underlines Cavan's loss

TWELVE months ago, Seanie Johnston was battling through the difficult hoops involved in his transfer from Cavan to Kildare.

A year on, he is in a much more comfortable place as a Lilywhite regular. He has scored a total of 2-11 (2-9 from open play) in his last four games against Mayo, Dublin, Kerry and Cork.

Man of the match against Mayo and Kerry, he scored 0-4 and 1-3 in those games, which Kildare won by one and two points respectively.

His finishing skills are certainly a major plus for Kildare, who, in a change from previous years, have the highest goal return in Division 1 (nine in five games).

Kildare's gain is certainly Cavan's loss as Johnston's former colleagues have lost two games by two points and drawn another, leaving them fourth in Division 3. Given the impressive return of Johnston (left) with Kildare in Division 1, it's likely that Cavan would be leading Division 3 if he was still aboard.
