How the final unfolded
Having started the game with a whirlwind of endeavour, Andy Moran scores the opening point for Mayo after strong pressure coming from his fellow forwards on the Dublin backs, with Keith Higgins starting the game probing from the half-forward line.
Dublin 0-0 Mayo 0-1
James McCarthy storms forward on a couple of occasions in the first half and his first incision leads to a Dublin point; Mayo should have cleared the danger but Ger Cafferkey's quick free cedes easy possession to Diarmuid Connolly.
Dublin 0-1 Mayo 0-1
Cillian O'Connor hits a second successive free awry, Mayo's third wide in just eight minutes, but they shrug off that disappointment as Aidan O'Shea wins the kick-out from Stephen Cluxton and lays it off to O'Connor, who sets it up for Lee Keegan to edge Mayo ahead.
Dublin 0-1 Mayo 0-2
Higgins takes advantage of a brilliant Moran pass from a quickly-taken free. Mayo move two clear.
Dublin 0-1 Mayo 0-3
Alan Dillon and Moran, the latter continuing his dream start, set up O'Connor for a goal chance but Philly McMahon smothers well. However, he then fouls the ball, allowing O'Connor to point his opening free.
Dublin 0-1 Mayo 0-4
Dublin are floundering. As Eoghan O'Gara comes on for hamstring victim Paul Mannion, Cluxton launches a kick-out straight out of play. But, from the next phase, Paul Flynn tests Cafferkey's marking with a high ball and he loses out to Bernard Brogan, who punches the opening goal to the net against the run of play.
Dublin 1-1 Mayo 0-4
With Moran now sitting at centre-back, he sets Mayo up down the right through Dillon and Tom Cunniffe. His ball in causes havoc in a frenetic Dublin defence and Ger Brennan loses the ball to Alan Freeman. There's a goal on; he points, but the play is brought back for an infringement; O'Connor points.
Dublin 1-1 Mayo 0-6
McCarthy bursts clear through the middle once more and Mayo's defence parts like the Red Sea. Ciaran Kilkenny receives from McCarthy but Rob Hennelly spreads himself to save. Not for the last time. However, Brogan points from the rebound to give his side some much-needed oxygen.
Dublin 1-2 Mayo 0-7
After excellent build-up work from Brennan and McMahon, Michael Darragh Macauley bears down on goal but, after failing to spot Kilkenny in a perfect position to his left, shoots straight at Hennelly, who pulls off his second crucial save. However, Cluxton points the '45'.
Both sides are playing as if it's the final five minutes of the second half. Cluxton misses a free but O'Gara fists a point to leave Dublin just a point behind, when it could be much, much more.
Dublin 1-4 Mayo 0-8
