Horan happy with Limerick momentum
Limerick climbed to the top of the table after getting the better of Waterford at Fraher Field.
Maurice Horan's side have won their opening three games by a combined total of five points and their calmness in tight situations came to fore once more.
"Our experienced heads got on the ball at the right time and Ian Ryan kicked the frees. It was satisfying that the guys took control and took the sting out of Waterford at crucial times," said the manager.
"The first couple of wins has given us a bit of confidence – especially the Leitrim win. Momentum is a great thing to have and we definitely have some behind us now."
The Shannonsiders held a 0-4 to 0-2 interval advantage as they proved far more efficient in their shooting than their misfiring hosts.
The home side accumulated eight first-half wides and they also went 26 minutes without troubling the umpires.
Gary Hurney was introduced early on to make his return from suspension and he converted a late free to end that barren spell.
The wides count soared for both sets of forwards on the resumption, but Limerick remained in control.
Despite the fact that Hurney narrowed the deficit to a single point on two occasions, the visitors showed no signs of panic.
Ian Ryan kicked three second-half points and Seanie Buckley added another on 67 minutes to give them a three-point lead, before Hurney set up a tense finish when he landed a late free.
