Hickey on double as Banner march on

Clare 4-14
Waterford 1-9
Munster MFC

Clare are through to a semi-final play-off against Limerick after a 14-point hammering of Waterford in Dungarvan on Saturday evening.

The writing was on the wall for Waterford from an early stage in this encounter and Clare took a commanding lead in the eighth minute when full-forward Niall Hickey got in for his first goal of the evening.

A minute later, Hickey missed a penalty but the visitors did grab their second goal of the game in the 15th minute when midfielder Conor Cleary finished an excellent move which also involved his twin brother Eoin.

The game was essentially finished as a contest at that stage but Clare were relentless and in the 16th minute, they raised their third green flag of the night as Hickey finished off some excellent build-up play.

Waterford did rally somewhat and kicked some excellent points through Gavin Nugent and Tadhg Burke, but they trailed by 3-7 to 0-6 at the break.

Clare took their foot off the gas in the second half and Waterford came more into it, grabbing a goal of their own through sub Dale Sheridan, before Martin O'Leary put the seal on the win for Clare with a final-minute penalty.
