Holders St Pat's booked their place in the semi-finals by beating St Macartan's by half a dozen points at the Athletic Grounds.

A 12th-minute penalty from Conor McCarthy put St Macartan's into an early lead. Peter Hagan then exchanged points with Aodh Hughes.

Pat's got a stroke of luck when a Paul Gunning shot for a point dipped into the net to leave them 1-4 to 1-2 in front at the interval.

Danny Tallon and Paul McAtamney stretched that advantage to four points on the restart before McCarthy replied for the Monaghan lads. In the 43rd minute, Gunning's explosive shot to the roof of the net more or less ended the game as a contest. St Macartan's lost their composure and had two players black carded while Tallon took his personal haul to 1-3 when he converted a penalty eight minutes from time.

With five minutes to go. Daithi Colton smashed the ball to the roof of the net but it was only a consolation score for MacCormack Cup winners St Macartan's who crashed out.
