Goals during the opening quarter from Denis Glennon and Gavin Hoey put Westmeath on their way to an easy victory over Kilkenny at Ballyragget on Saturday.
The early blast left Kilkenny 0-2 to 2-3 down, and they were always fighting an uphill battle after that. The winners led by 2-7 to 0-3 at the break and afterwards they were able to get in a bit of shooting practice against a very limited side.
