Gleeson on double to ward off Maynooth challenge

Spa 2-11
Maynooth 2-9

A second-half double by Conor Gleeson saw Spa hold off Maynooth in yesterday's All-Ireland Club IFC semi-final at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick.

Spa looked buried when Karl Ennis stuck a superb point in the 54th minute to put Maynooth 2-9 to 1-10 in front. But the Kerry champions finished stronger, with Gleeson finding the net after a great team move. Michael O'Donoghue then added the insurance point.

Maynooth were leading 1-5 to 0-7 at the interval -- their goal coming in the 22nd minute, when Ennis blasted a 20-yard drive to the net.

Gleeson got Spa's first goal in the 37th minute to put them ahead by 1-8 to 1-6. Maynooth responded through the Ennis brothers with Alan McAndrew scoring his side's second goal in the 47th minute. However, Gleeson again goaled to book a final date with Cookstown on February 14.
