Galway minor Conroy puts GMIT on course for double

THE footballers of GMIT followed their hurlers' example and booked a place in the semi- finals of the Higher Education Championship -- the Sigerson Cup.

Tomorrow the GMIT hurlers play champions LIT in the Fitzgibbon Cup semi-final in Cork.

And as a result of yesterday's six-point success at Limerick's Gaelic Grounds, their footballers are now off to Carlow next week for their final four clash.

With Kerry senior David Moran on target, UL were 0-3 to 0-1 ahead after 16 minutes, but were to score just two more points for the remainder of the game.

Having led by 0-6 to 0-4 at the break, GMIT cruised home in the second half with Galway's All-Ireland minor winner Paul Conroy to the fore.
