It's good to see that Irish Independent sports coverage motivates people into all sorts of pursuits.

The series where we selected the greatest 125 hurlers and footballers of all time in late 2009 has inspired a CD, 'The Very Best of the Gael' by John Duggan.

I first met John many years ago when he was a garda stationed in my neighbouring parish of Glenamaddy, Galway and he had a big interest in music and composing.

His latest creation is a series of monologues about great GAA teams, players and occasions over many decades. And it all started with our 125 selections!

Released on the Ceol music label, it captures the essence of what the GAA means to Irish people, a good starting base at this particular juncture in the country's history.
