Dublin run riot over depleted Faithful side

THREE first-half goals saw Pat Gilroy's Dublin cruise into the O'Byrne Shield final at Parnell Park yesterday.

A heavily depleted Offaly, who were short 18 players between their Rhode contingent playing in today's Leinster club final and those on college duty, were no match for the rampant Blues.

Offaly were powerless to stop expertly taken goals from a Mossy Quinn penalty, Kevin McManamon and Diarmuid Connolly. And with Denis Bastick and Colm Murphy bossing midfield and Dean Kelly starring up front, the Dubs led by 3-6 to 0-2 at half-time. Tom Cribben's side went 29 minutes without scoring but there was a better effort from Offaly through Ciarán McManus and Karol Slattery after the break.

The Dubs, who themselves were without some college players and the Kilmacud men, could afford to keep Bernard Brogan on the bench. And the introduction of Paul Flynn and Paddy Andrews kept them on the front foot to secure the victory.
