Doyle brace helps Carlow secure deserved victory

Carlow were worthy winners over Westmeath in the Walsh Shield at Lakepoint Park, Mullingar, last night.

Two goals from centre half-forward Craig Doyle, the second on the stroke of half-time, helped Carlow to a 2-6 to 0-9 lead at the interval.

The hosts were given a boost three minutes into the second half when Carlow's Jack Kavanagh was given his marching orders on a second yellow card, but with Doyle prominent in attack and Kevin Keogh reliable between the goal posts, Carlow held out for a deserved win.
