Donnelly fires tyrone to safety

Ladies NFL round-up

TYRONE ensured their survival in Division 1 with a priceless victory over Donegal.

Ace forward Joline Donnelly scored 1-5 for the Red Hands as they ran out 2-13 to 3-4 winners in Ballybofey. Donegal are now locked in a desperate relegation battle going into the final round of games in two weeks' time.

Kildare prop up the table with just one point from six matches and the Lilywhites suffered a 0-22 to 0-3 hiding from table-toppers and champions Cork, who maintained their 100pc record so far this season.

Kildare travel to Monaghan, who are already assured of a place in the semi-finals, while Donegal host Meath in the last round of games.

The stark reality for Kildare is that they simply must win away to Monaghan, which is a daunting task, and hope that Donegal, who are on three points, slip up at home to Meath.

But Meath have something to play for as they are locked in a battle with last year's runners-up Laois for fourth place and a semi-final slot, with Cork, Monaghan and Dublin all safely qualified.

In Division 2, Mayo are top following a 1-9 to 1-7 victory over Kerry, with Cora Staunton accounting for 1-7 of their tally.
