Donegal got out of jail in Ballybofey last night with a great final 20 minutes to come from eight points down to snatch a draw with Sligo.
The home side were very physical in the opening half and by the half-time break they had paid the price, losing Kevin Mulhern to two yellow cards just before the break.
Tony Taylor notched the opening point on five minutes for Sligo. Donegal came back with three points by the 14th minute through Colm McFadden, Michael Murphy and Dermot Molloy.
Mark Breheny had a free for Sligo, but Donegal almost had a goal at the other end when Mark McHugh was pulled down by Philip Greene and was denied the advantage. Murphy pointed the free but Sligo responded with a Mark Quinn point.
Molloy edged Donegal two clear by the 23rd minute, but Sligo hit a purple patch in the second quarter with Adrian Marren coming into the contest, hitting three points. Stephen Gilmartin also broke through to fist a point and Breheny added a free.
Donegal lost Mulhern to a second yellow in the 33rd minute, but McFadden hit a point to leave Sligo ahead by 0-8 to 0-6 at the break.
Sligo had a blistering start to the second half with Breheny going through a gaping gap, denied by Peter Boyle, but David Kelly sidefooted the rebound to the net. By the 47th minute, they were 1-11 to 0-6 ahead before Donegal staged a comeback led by points from Rory Kavanagh, Leo McLoone and McFadden. Murphy then converted a penalty at the second attempt on 54 minutes to reduce the deficit to two points.
Neil McGee got in for an equalising goal and Taylor put Sligo ahead, before Stephen Griffin struck in injury-time to give Donegal a draw.
