Derry finish with a flourish to send Carlow crashing

Derry 5-18 Carlow 1-12 DERRY recorded their second win of the campaign when they hammered Carlow in glorious sunshine at Fr McNally Park, Banagher.

Despite the score, Carlow battled bravely and it was only in the last 10 minutes that Derry pulled away.

The sides were level at 0-4 each, before Derry hit five unanswered points to take control.

In the 28th minute Ruairi Convery crashed a 20m free to the net and then added a point. Seamus Murphy pulled back a point for the visitors but Sean McBride fired home a second goal for a 1-10 to 0-7 lead.

In the final minute of the half Derry keeper Kirkpatrick saved a close range free but Sean McMahon netted the rebound. John Coady had a point as Derry took a 2-10 to 1-7 advantage to the break.

Derry had the advantage of the wind in the second half and, with Gareth O'Kane adding three pointed frees to his first half tally of three Derry built a 2-16 to 1-10

cushion after twenty minutes, Lawlor, Roberts and Dunbar replying for Carlow.

Ten minutes from time Ruairi Convery scored his second goal, Kevin Hinphey adding a brace of points before subst Oisin and Paddy McCloskey completed the goal fest.

Between these two strikes Carlow full back Eoin Nolan was dismissed.
