Death of Mick Dunne
ALL but the very youngest GAA followers will remember Mick Dunne who passed away yesterday.
Mick was one of a small group of journalists who in the sixties and seventies dragged coverage of Gaelic games from the stone age into the modern media era, firstly with the Irish Press in its heyday and later with RTE radio and television.
Personal integrity was Mick's strong point and close friendships with leading GAA officials never infringed on that honesty when reporting.
He set standards of objectivity and fair play which have stood the test of time. And without Mick Dunne, the original Carroll's All-Stars would probably never have got off the ground in 1971. May he rest in peace.
