Daly's strike steers Kilmurry through
A second-half strike from Johnny Daly was enough to steer Kilmurry-Ibrickane past Tir Chonaill Gaels at Ruislip yesterday.
In a dour game that won't live long in the memory, a flighted free-kick into the area by Ian McInerney broke kindly for Daly and the full-forward made no mistake from close range.
The Banner club will now face Portlaoise in the All-Ireland club semi-final next month, but a massive improvement is required if they are to book a place in Croke Park on St Patrick's Day.
The winter break didn't seem to do either side any favours, with both guilty of a number of unforced errors, the heavy pitch more than playing its part.
Without a competitive game since last October, the Londoners were rusty up front and managed one solitary point from play, although they felt more than aggrieved on 10 minutes when Niall Quinn lobbed goalkeeper Dermot O'Brien, only for referee Martin Higgins to disallow his effort for an earlier thrown pass.
And Quinn's day went from bad to worse on 37 minutes when he was given a straight red card for a heavy-handed challenge on Martin McMahon.
Fermanagh official Higgins had a busy day at the office, dishing out his yellow card on no fewer than 11 occasions, all but one of those coming in the first half.
Just a point separated the sides at the interval, Daly's late free giving the Munster champions a slender 0-3 to 0-2 lead.
They should have pushed on following Quinn's dismissal, but their shooting let them down, hitting seven wides in total.
Luckily for them, Daly was in the right place at the right time to ensure their progress.
