KERRY kingpins Dr Crokes narrowly held on to win their third AIB Munster senior club football title in a row yesterday, but were left with egg on their face after posting a comment about match referee Conor Lane on their official Twitter account, writes cliona foley.

The Killarney side were reduced to 14 men against Clare champions Cratloe at the Gaelic Grounds when county star Colm Cooper got his marching orders for a second yellow card, and Lane was booed by a section of the crowd at the end of the game.

"Are Munster Council taking the p*** appointing that ref#muppet from Cork?" was posted on Crokes' official Twitter account (see below), a comment the club later tried to distance themselves from.

The tweet was deleted and replaced with one which said: "The Dr Crokes club would like to officially disassociate ourselves with a previous comment made regarding the referee."

Whoever was posting their tweets also got a vital detail wrong.

"Phew, four in a row," they tweeted, before posting another which said: "Correction: 3 in a row."

Lane refereed this year's Connacht senior football final between Mayo and London and was also the man in the middle for the All-Ireland minor football final between Mayo and Tyrone.
