Convery strike sends Derry on way in ill-tempered affair
When you throw stats out like 26 scores, a penalty and two red cards, it might be easy to paint a picture of an entertaining game.
But Derry's win over Wicklow was far from entertaining. Ruairi Convery's 20th-minute goal put Derry in control, leading 1-07 to 0-06 at the break, despite losing half-forward Sam Dodds to a suspected broken toe.
After 47 minutes, Derry's Aaron Kelly netted from the rebound as Wicklow goalkeeper Ted Kennedy denied Patrick McCloskey's strike on goal. Things boiled over towards the end, however, as Derry's Mark Craig (second yellow) and Wicklow's Joe Murphy (straight) saw red.
