Connolly shines in DIT masterclass

PLAYING all the quality football, DIT gave a polished display as they completely outclassed a poor Wexford outfit in Enniscorthy.

Wexford were placed on the rack from the very outset by an eager DIT outfit, who controlled midfield through Ciaran Reddin and Gearoid McKiernan. In attack Aidan O'Shea, stepped up to the plate, along with Diarmuid Connolly and Alan Freeman.

DIT raced three points clear inside the opening four minutes through Freeman, Connolly and John McGrath, before grabbing the game's opening goal after just nine minutes.

Connolly stepped up to plant the ball in the Wexford net, leaving DIT leading 1-3 to 0-0.

Wexford opened their account after 17 minutes through Ben Brosnan, but only two excellent saves from 'keeper Anthony Masterson denied Freeman and Conor Lynam goals.

DIT went in with a commanding leading of 1-10 to 0-2 at the interval, with Brosnan also tagging on the home side's second point.

Straight from the restart, DIT added points through Freeman, Connolly and O'Shea to extend their lead, while it was sub Cathal McHugh who finished a move with a splendid goal, leaving his side leading 2-13 to 0-2 after 53 minutes.

Connolly blasted a 70th minute penalty off the bar and over for a point, as Wexford were left to look back on a dreadful performance.
