Cassidy to miss team holiday
Kevin Cassidy's punishment for co-operating with a book on the Ulster championship has been extended to the Donegal team holiday to Florida later this month.
Cassidy was released from the squad by manager Jim McGuinness last week after the publication of a book 'This Is Our Year', which charted his journey through the season. But now the team holiday is off limits for him too.
It has emerged that the Donegal players had entered confidentiality clauses not to reveal details of their preparations during the year. Cassidy chose not to inform McGuinness about his co-operation with the book and that led to the Donegal players being requested not to attend the book's Donegal launch in Gaoth Dobhair last week.
Now it has emerged that Cassidy and his wife Sarah will not be part of the travelling party to Florida at the end of this month. It appears that this is not Cassidy's decision.
Many will find it ironic that the man who kicked the winning point in the All-Ireland quarter-final against Kildare will not be on a team holiday that he did so much on the field to earn.
His absence from the holiday, a reward for what the team achieved in 2011, is sure to have an impact on some of the players close to Cassidy.
