WEXFORD enjoyed a carefree day-trip to the sunny northeast, easily brushing aside Louth in Drogheda.

Louth opened the scoring in the first minute, but they didn't manage another one until after half-time, and in the meantime Wexford sprinted into a 13-point lead.

They were 0-4 to 0-1 up by the time Seamus Casey weaved his way through the home defence and drilled a low shot past Niall Carrie in the 18th minute.

With Tony Smith in top form, the visitors turned the screw, kicking a further seven points without reply to lead by 1-11 to 0-1 at the break.

Louth mustered a mini-revival after the break as Ryan Burns converted a free and followed up with a superb goal, but Wexford answered with three quick points from Ian Carty, Glen Malone and Ben Cowman, making it 1-14 to 1-2.

A second goal from Casey put the issue beyond doubt before sub Tom Byrne added a third goal. Burns fired home a penalty late on for Louth, who have 10 days to bounce back for a qualifier with Longford.
