Brosnan halts Flannan's revival
St Brendan's 2-12 St Flannan's 0-9
If ever a scoreline flattered a team it was this one, as Killarney's St Brendan's were hanging on by just two points with time almost up, in this absorbing encounter played at a windswept Rathkeale.
A brilliant second-half recovery from St Flannan's of Ennis had Brendan's on the ropes, but just when it looked like the Kerry side would cave in, Shane Cronin and Tony Brosnan rode to their rescue.
Cronin and Kerry minor Brosnan helped their side score 2-1 without reply, with Brosnan setting up a crucial 59th-minute Dara Roche goal and scoring the insurance goal in injury-time.
Referee Shane Hourigan dished out six black cards, three on each side, in a pulsating contest.
St Brendan's led 0-9 to 0-1 at the interval, with Burns contributing 0-4. Roche fired over two from play and Flannan's were in all sorts of bother.
However they thundered into the game with the wind at their backs in the second half and, despite the rash of black cards, they battled back to within two points (0-11 to 0-9) before Brendan's double act got them out of jail.
