A recurring theme

"It's pure laziness. That's what it's down to. If you don't track people, they'll kill you and we didn't and when we do that, that's what happens. You can talk about systems or whatever -- if you don't work hard then that's what happens. It's a good lesson and it's the right time of the year to get it."

-- Pat Gilroy on more defensive woes against Mayo.

"I think we were very lucky to get away with the two points. I mean, when we went down to 14 men we were really hanging on there for dear life at the end."

-- Gilroy on lucky escape from Clones.

"We'd be very happy to have two more points, but conceding 18 points in inter-county... now I will make allowances for the fact that it is Croke Park and there is extra space at this time of the year. But 18 points, I think we have the worst defensive record now in the league, so we have a lot of work to do."

-- Gilroy after beating Kerry.

"We mixed the good with the bad again. We were lucky not to concede any goals. Stephen's (Cluxton) saves were exceptional."

-- Gilroy after leaking 16 points to Cork.
