Fitzpatrick sees red as Ulster lose

Ulster had Declan Fitzpatrick sent off for punching and could not fully recover as Zebre landed their first win of the Guinness PRO12 season.

Prop Fitzpatrick was red-carded after only 10 minutes of the match after striking Andrea Manici and Italians Zebre went on to take a 13-6 victory.

Neither side could make a breakthrough in the first half, which ended without a point on the scoreboard as Zebre resisted pressure from their under-manned visitors.

The only try of the contest came in the 46th minute as Dario Chistolini went over in the left corner.

The try was permitted by the television match official who in the previous five minutes of play had turned down two appeals for Zebre tries, after Leonardo Sarto crossed for both.

Kelly Haimona converted and later added a penalty and a drop goal as Zebre made their man advantage count, with Ulster's points coming from a pair of penalties booted by Ian Humphreys

There might have been a closer finish, but Ulster's Darren Cave saw a late try ruled out for an obstruction offence.
