Fickle finger of fate jabs Robshaw in the eye
Those of a different generation will recall the 'Fickle Finger of Fate' Award from the old television comedy show, the 'Rowan and Martin Laugh-In'.
It was a weekly nomination to an individual or team on the back of the most outrageous decision or claim made that week.
Well for sure the 'Fickle Finger of Fate' award this week goes to England skipper Chris Robshaw on the back of his decision to go for gold when silver was staring him in the face.
I am old school here, and unless the opposition have been reduced to 14 or a win is the only result acceptable, when you are three points down late on and you get a penalty, you take the three points and then go back for more.
Of course, in the minds of most, the end result justifies the means. Contrast the villain that is Robshaw and 'the arrogant English' with the heroics of Michael Leitch and the Brave Blossoms just seven days before.
Japan coach Eddie Jones was honest enough to admit that he thought his skipper had lost his marbles when going for broke instead of the guaranteed draw against the 'Boks.
Unfortunately for Robshaw, this 'Fickle Finger' gong is well earned.
