Euro 2016 dominates RTE ratings figures for last year but The Toy Show can't be toppled

Sporting events dominated the list of the most-watched TV programmes on RTE in 2016 with Euro 2016 featuring prominently.

Of the top 20 shows of from last year, 12 of team are sporting events.

Unsurprisingly, The Late Late Toy Show tops the list again but in excess of one million viewers tuned in to Ireland's Euro 2016 clashes with France in the knockout stages and the pool games against Italy and Sweden.

The defeat to Les Bleus was second on the list with a total audience of 1.26 million people.

The heavy defeat to the Belgians was sixth on the list closely followed by All-Ireland final replay that saw Dublin edge out Mayo in a thriller (843,000 viewers) and Tipperary's triumph over the Cats (785,000 viewers).

Ireland's incident-packed defeat to the All Blacks at the Aviva, following the historic victory in Chicago, gleaned (683,000 viewers).

The Six Nations defeats to France and England also make the list.
