Eddie, Buzz and Toashteen set for big screen as Hardy Bucks team receives loan reporters

THE team behind cult mockumentary series Hardy Bucks has received a production loan worth €175,000 from the Irish Film Board.

The film will be directed by series director Mike Cockayne who will also work on the script with writers Chris Tordoff, Martin Maloney and Gerry Greaney, according to RTE.

So hapless characters Eddie, Buzz, The Boo and Toashteen are escaping Castletown in the west of Ireland - the place they can’t seem to escape from - for the big screen.

Hardy Bucks was first entered into the RTE Storyland competition and was one of nine out of 122 applications chosen to make an episode.

The show has been compared to Trailer Park Boys, a Canadian mockumentary, and Tordoff has cited the show as an influence.

Other funding recipients were an animated version of Zig & Zag and Men in Uniform, the new documentary from His & Hers director Ken Wardrop.
