Elite League leaders the Cardiff Devils slipped to a surprise 3-2 home defeat to the Dundee Stars after penalty shots.

Gui Doucet's 22nd goal of the season and Joey Martin twice put the Devils ahead, but Lou Dickenson and John Dolan levelled on each occasion.

Curtis Leinweber was the only scorer in the shoot-out as Dundee netminder Vlastimil Lakosil saved all three Devils efforts.

Cardiff's defeat was pounced on by chasing trio the Sheffield Steelers, Belfast Giants and Nottingham Panthers, who all won to close the gap at the top.

Sheffield stay second after Levi Nelson, Russ Moyer and Tyler Mosienko added to Jace Coyle's double in their 5-2 victory over the Manchester Storm, while Matt Paton and Grant Toulmin provided consolation for the struggling visitors.

Kris Beech and Mike Radja both scored twice as Belfast beat the Coventry Blaze 6-3.

Craig Peacock and Chris Higgins also found the net for the Giants with Cale Tanaka, James Jorgensen and Russell Cowley replying.

Nottingham swatted aside the Edinburgh Capitals 8-2 with Juraj Kolnik (two), Brad Moran (two), Stephen Schultz, Robert Farmer, Andy Bohmbach and David Ling all on target for the Panthers.

Paul Zanette and Ned Lukacevic scored for Capitals, who remain bottom of the table.

The Fife Flyers rallied impressively to beat the Braehead Clan after Matt Keith and Alex Leavitt had put the visitors 2-0 ahead early on.

Stephen Gunn and Jamie Fox levelled before the end of the first period and Kyle Haines, Nico Sacchetti and Nicholas Rioux completed the comeback.
