Several top tournaments have finished recently or will finish today. Boris Gelfand (Israel) and Leinier Dominguez (USA) shared a victory in the Netanya Masters in Israel, while Quang Liem Le (Vietnam) won a closed tournament in St Louis, USA. The Croatia Grand Chess Tour comes to an end today in Zagreb. With two rounds to go, World Champion Magnus Carlsen was leading with 6.5 points out of 9, but Wesley So was only half a point behind. The fact that they were to meet in round 10 added to the intrigue in this great tournament.

The High League of the Russian Championship also concludes today. Before the last round, GMs Sarana and Predke were leading with 6 points out of 8. The latter won a nice game in round 3 of this event:

Black's position would be only marginally worse after 20...h6! 21.Bxc6 Bxc6 22.Bxb4 Bd5 23.Bxf8 Qxf8, but even very strong players sometimes overlook well-known sacrifices. Here Black fell victim to the ''Greek Gift'' sacrifice:
