It took extra time to separate Longford and Wexford in last night's football qualifier but thanks to a strong performance in the closing stages it is Wexford who will progress in the championship after they recorded a 2-15 to 0-16 victory in an extremely hot Pearse Park.

At the final whistle a melee broke but no cards were issued and the situation was brought under control by the officials.

Cavan recorded their third championship win over Fermanagh in 12 months on a 1-14 to 0-10 scoreline after a feisty SFC All-Ireland qualifier in Breffni Park last night.

Sligo referee Michael Duffy flashed three red cards and 15 yellows in what was a terrible game between two teams over-familiar with each other.

A mass brawl just after the half-time whistle resulted in Fermanagh’s Sean Quigley getting a straight red card immediately after the restart.
