Brian O'Driscoll joins Hurling Around the World charity

Diarmuid Lyng

He excelled at rugby, I suppose, but our colleague Brian O'Driscoll threw away what would surely have been a glittering inter county hurling career!

I've seen him play! Paul Galvin is in there too. Joe Canning, Noel McGrath, Anna Geary and a host of other sports stars from around the country took part in a project that's taken over three years to complete.

I teamed up with Eamonn Sayers, founder of online sporting community WorldSportsTeam.org, to create Hurling Around the World, shortly before departing the hurling scene in 2011.

The result brings the best of Irish culture - a subjective view - from Croker to the Cliffs of Moher and off on a worldwide adventure that brought the ash plant to Angkor Wat, Everest Base camp, Moscow, Melbourne and beyond.

We finish the trip off circumnavigating Eire, and it's sure to bring huge awareness to the charity that will assist athletes with catastrophic injuries. Check it out on worldsportsteam.org. #HATW.
