Ireland's Barry Murphy swam a season's best in this morning heats of the 50m breaststroke to qualify for this evening's sem-finals in Barcelona.

The 28 year old Dubliner who competed at the London Olympics was in lane six of heat nine, the final and most competitive heat of the morning, and produced a time of 27.52 seconds to qualify as the 13th fastest swimmer.

The semi-final takes place during today's evening session. Ireland's Sycerika McMahon was due to compete in the 200m freestyle today but has opted not to so she can concentrate on Thursday's 100m freestyle.
