Ashley Cole facing Mourinho backlash for twitter comment
Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole has damaged hopes of a new deal at Stamford Bridge with a poorly considered comment on social media.
The 33-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season but put in a polished display in yesterday's 1-0 FA Cup fourth round win over Stoke City.
Cole came in for a lot of praise on twitter after the game but a sarcastic response to a Chelsea fan could land him in trouble.
“@Glyn1980: Well played today Ash, we look much better with you in the back 4. #fact," was the fans tweet, to which Cole responded: "cheers mate just don't get used to it."
The Blues defender has a chequered history on Twitter and it is yet to be seen whether he is punished internally for seemingly breaching the club's social media guidelines.
Cole has won eight major honours in as many years at Chelsea and was regarded as one of the club's most consistent performers.
However, given the success of Azpilicueta on the left side and the improvement of Ryan Bertrand, Cole is under pressure at the Bridge.
