Tomas Lavanini believes Argentina could struggle to contain Ireland's pack in Saturday's Test clash in Dublin.

Lock Lavanini will form part of a teak-tough Pumas pack for the Aviva Stadium encounter, where Ireland will be itching for revenge for their 43-20 loss to Argentina in the 2015 World Cup quarter-final.

Star half-backs Martin Landajo and Nicolas Sanchez will link up for head coach Daniel Hourcade's side, with 24-year-old Lavanini expecting a fierce battle up front.

"We know what kind of team Ireland are," said Lavanini.

"I've played against them three times, and the truth is that they are always a very tough opponent, with a very strong and heavy pack. And that's something that we have always struggled to counteract.

"They have strong aerial threat in the second row, their front row is extremely technical and neat, and in general they are a very hard team to penetrate."

Lavanini has already racked up 37 caps in a burgeoning Test career, and has benefited from working in the ranks of Super Rugby outfit the Jaguares, from where Argentina select their Test squad.

The bullish lock insisted however that Saturday's visitors will be punished for even the tiniest error by Joe Schmidt's obdurate and accurate Ireland.

"Winning our set-piece and then retaining ball will be vital, because with the smallest error they will make you pay," said Lavanini.

"The breakdown will also be key, because they know how to make the game slow and that will be fundamental when it comes to attacking them."

Argentina team to face Ireland in Dublin on Saturday: J Tuculet, R Moyano, M Moroni, S Gonzalez, E Boffelli, N Sanchez, M Landajo, S Garcia Botta, A Creevy (capt), N Tetaz Chaparro, M Alemanno, T Lavanini, P Matera, M Kremer, T Lezana. Replacements: J Montoya, L Noguera, E Pieretto, G Petti, J M Leguizamon, G Beretranou, J De la Fuete, S Cancelliere.
