Amazing Grace on the double
A BIG week for women in sport saw jockey Katie Walsh winning the Irish National and the women's boat-race rowers in Britain getting equal billing with their male counterpart.
And Grace Prenter (8), from Rathfarnham, scored one for the little girls.
The juvenile races, like the mass participation event, includes boys and girls, and she was first across the line in the 5 to 8-year-olds race over 1.5km and was also thrilled to win the girls' 'mini' title after finishing runner-up last year.
Grace may be a future Irish star but one of the biggest current ones was also among the masses in the main event.
Ireland's reigning world 50km walk champion Rob Heffernan used the race for training purposes and walked it in a time of 41 minutes.
He recently did 50km in 3:48.44 to qualify for this summer's World Championships but revealed on Saturday that he's getting a minor operation on a hernia in his right groin in the next fortnight.
