Clodagh Dooley

Clodagh Dooley speaks to Tadgh White, from Co Cork, about his experience at Kreativ Dental Clinic in Budapest, Hungary.

“I was never confident with my teeth,” says Tadgh, who works in the building industry in Co Cork. “When I was just 10-years-old, I experienced a bad fall, which did serious damage to my teeth. I went to see a dentist, but because there wasn’t a lot of options to get suitable treatment for a young child at that time, I never got anything done with my teeth.”

Not only did Tadgh feel insecure about how his teeth looked, he also suffered from a lot of pain as a result.

“As time passed, I became more and more self-conscious about my teeth. I visited some Irish dentists, but if I was to get treatment here in Ireland, it would have cost me up to about €50,000 and that was just too expensive. But, my teeth had deteriorated so badly, I knew I needed to do something about it.”

Tadgh started searching the internet for different options and came across a link for Kreativ Dental Clinic in Budapest. It immediately grabbed his interest and, coincidentally, one of his friends recommended the clinic to him soon after he had discovered it online.

Fear of the unknown

Awarded ‘International Dental Clinic of the Year 2018’ by medical travel publication the International Medical Travel Journal, Kreativ Dental Clinic has been providing quality dental care for over 17 years. The clinic’s oral surgeons and dental specialists have years of experience in their respective fields of dentistry, and treatments include implants, root canals, and full porcelain crowns, along with many others.

"A year and a half ago, I rang Mary Flanagan, the Irish representative for Kreativ Dental Clinic, and told her about my situation,” says Tadgh. “She told me about the clinic and the various treatments offered. She then advised me to go over for a free, no-obligation consultation, see what the dental specialists say and decide what to do then.”

For Tadgh, fear was the biggest obstacle holding him back.

“I knew I would need a lot of work done and I was nervous about what treatment would cost, if it would be painful and if it would provide the results I wanted.

“Mary was able to help me put my fear aside and what I liked about her approach was that she didn’t keep pushing me to go. When I hung up the phone after our first call, she didn’t keep ringing back to see if I had made a decision. She left it up to me and eventually, I rang her back and told her I would be going ahead with the consultation.”

Once Tadgh had made up his mind, Mary helped to organise the flights and book him in for his consultation at Kreativ Dental Clinic.

“She was very helpful. I didn’t need to lift a finger! When we arrived at Budapest airport, there was even a transfer ready to bring anyone visiting the clinic to their hotels.”

On the morning of his consultation, Tadgh was anxious leaving the hotel to go to the clinic.

“If I’m honest, I had pictured the clinic as a small room in the back of someone’s house! But, when I arrived, I realised I was wrong. The clinic was ultra-modern, there wasn’t even handles on the doors into the surgery, foot pedals opened all doors! Inside, there was an aquarium and couches around the room, which had digital tablets alongside them. So, when you’re waiting for your appointment, your mind is kept occupied.”

Consultation time

When Tadgh was brought in for his consultation, the dental specialist said that he would need as much work done as he had expected.

“I needed to get many treatments, one of which was implants. Because I was getting so much work done, the specialist told me I would need to spend seven days in Budapest after the treatment began, Kreativ Dental do not rush work, adding to the quality and longevity of the treatment. They left the decision completely in my hands to go ahead with the treatment or not, but I had decided it was now or never. I booked myself in to start the treatment a few days later.”

Tadgh said he initially felt terrified before the treatment, but this fear soon disappeared.

“The dental specialist reassured me I would feel no pain. At first, I didn’t believe him, but he was right. I felt no pain whatsoever during the treatment. There was some slight discomfort afterwards, but that was natural.

“After the treatment was finished, I was delighted with the results. Compared to what I would have been paying in Ireland, I made significant savings. I am now able to eat all foods, many of which I couldn't eat before. And, my family and friends had great compliments for me when I came home, and I feel more confident than I have ever felt in my life.”

Exploring options

Not only has Tadgh’s visit to Kreativ Dental Clinic been life-changing, but he also got the opportunity to visit a city he would never have considered visiting before.

“I explored Budapest over the days I didn’t need to be in the clinic. Budapest is a beautiful city, and working in the building industry, I was very interested to see the amazing architecture and buildings, such as the Parliament.

Some other must-visits include the Thermal Baths and the Bálna, a cultural and entertainment centre which is home to an art gallery, stores, restaurants and views of the Danube river. During the festive season, the oldest and internationally acclaimed Budapest Christmas fair in Vorosmarty Square is popular. This begins on November 9th.

Irish representative Mary Flanagan can help to secure the best-value flights and hotel accommodation. She says, “Try to book your flights at least two months beforehand, as the clinic appointments fill up quickly. And, the sooner flights are booked, the less expensive it will be!”

Tadgh adds, “After I had the treatment, I wondered why I didn’t push myself to get it done long ago. If you’re in a similar situation as I was, I would advise visiting Kreativ Dental Clinic for a consultation to see what your options are. You might decide to go ahead with the treatment or not, but if you do, it could end up being the best decision you will ever make.”
