Trailblazing Wicklow too hot to handle for Model County

Sports Reporter DANIEL GORMAN

WEXFORD had no answer for a trailblazing performance from Wicklow in their U-12 SFAI Jim Cashin Cup clash at Bridgewater Centre Park on Saturday morning.

The all-weather venue in Arklow meant that this fixture was largely unaffected by the recent torrid weather to hit the Garden County and the weather certainly had no effect on Wicklow's youngsters as they got their campaign back on track courtesy of this 2-0 win over their neighbours.

Saturday saw Wicklow enjoy their second outing in this group.

Their previous match ended in narrow defeat against the NDSL but Wicklow bounced back in style at the weekend as they put Wexford to the sword.

The hosts took the lead approximately midway through midway through the first half thanks to Wicklow Rovers' Keith Carty.

Wicklow shot-stopper Eoin O'Neill, was competent when called upon and even suffered some battle wounds for the cause but a clean sheet will have made it all worth it for the Arklow Town star.

The result was put beyond doubt in the dying moments when Eoin Darcy of Aughrim Rangers fired past the Wexford goalkeeper.

Wicklow: Eoin O'Neill; Joshua Mills, Cian Walsh, Ryan Kenny, Thomas Lynch; Keith Carty, Sean Crowley, Daniel Bruce, Olufemi Tanimowo; Liam Moore, Eoin Darcy. Subs: Jack Reilly, Oisin Hill, Benjamin Clarke, Mark Cullen, James Crean, Ethan O'Neill, Ted Crossingham.
