Conary haul themselves out of relegation zone

CONARY UNITED dragged themselves out of the Division 2 relegation zone at the weekend.

Their second league victory of the season was enough to lift them above Aughrim Rangers, who were busy knocking Seaview Wanderers out of the Thomas Scott Cup. Redbank United provided the opposition for the Rooster's Park club and a 3-1 victory elevated them up to seventh spot, albeit with one more game played than Rangers. Bobby Keenan and David Doran both registered singles for the hosts, with Redbank putting through their own net for Conary's third. Robin Byrne scored United's consolation.

The same score line was recorded at the Vartry Grounds as Newtown United B upset Roundwood to climb above them. Pawel Bochenek, Jamie McDonald and David Harvey did the damage for United in a controversial match, with Tommy Fitzpatrick netting for the hosts, who finished with ten men. For more information on that one, see our focus match.

That win hauls the Magpies up to joint second spot, level on points with Glencormac United and Seaview Wanderers. The trio trail league leaders Saints FC by nine points though following the Wexford side's facile 3-0 success over winless Arklow Celtic B.

Larry Nocter, Jack McEvoy and Daniel Whitty found the back of the net for the league leaders at the Showgrounds.
