Club call

WICKLOW ROVERS AFC - There was no Senior action last weekend, it was also the Christmas break for the girls' teams.

On Saturday the U-16s took on Coolboy Rangers in the final of the Premier Shield and after a tense battle they emerged victorious on a 3-2 score line.

After suffering three Shield final defeats in the last three years it was an overdue and well deserved victory for a lot of hard work and dedication from this group of players.

A brace from Kieran Bloomfield and a single from team captain Liam Kavanagh accounted for their goals.

The full squad is Daragh Hosey, Brendan Hawes, Rory O'Kelly, Aaron Meade, Conor Moore, Andrew O'Brien, Mark Egan, Craig Waldron, Alan Power, Lee Boylan, Liam Kavanagh, Glen McCarthy, James Nolan, Darragh O'Connor and Kieran Bloomfield. Well done once again to Jimmy, Brian and the lads.

The U-12Bs were in action in the shield and they lost 5-2 at home to Greystones United B at The Whitegates. Ryan Murphy scored his first of the season with James Bradshaw hitting his second of the campaign.

On Sunday the U-10As defeated Ashford Rovers by three goals to one with Mark O'Brien, Max Kearney and Lee Hamilton netting the goals.

The 10Cs defeated local rivals Wicklow Town in a close encounter, Finn Egan Barron hit his sixth goal of the season to give his team a narrow 1-0 victory.

Our 11As came out on top against one of their title rivals St Anthonys by a score of 6-3, Brandon O'Brien hit a splendid hat-trick, U-10 player Max Kearney and Frankie Reynolds scored one each with the other goal coming in the shape of an og.

The 12As defeated Aughrim Rangers for the second week running, Conor Byrne and Tristan O'Toole both helped themselves to a brace of goals with Shane Lincoln scoring the other in a 51 win.

The 14Bs beat Greystones United 7-2 in the Rocky Road, the highlight of this game was a couple of hat-tricks, one from Alfie Heather who scored a double hat-trick earlier in the season and the other from Ronan Murray. Ben Watson scored one to complete the seven goal haul.

The 15Bs went down 2-0 at home to Ardmore Rovers in a game if they had taken their chances the outcome could have been so different.

We had three players in the hat-trick club this week, first we had two in the one match, both Alfie Heather and Ronan Murray scored three times for the U-14Bs in their 7-2 victory over Greystones United.

Brandon O'Brien also scored an excellent hattrick for the 11As in their top of the table clash with St Anthony's which they won 6-3, well done Alfie, Ronan and Brandon.

It was a quiet weekend for the club as the pitches were closed on Saturday afternoon and Sunday resulting in the cancellation of the U-17 and first team games. The U-14s however did get to play their Cup match against Wolfe Tone at on Saturday morning and after a 13-goal thriller they were unlucky not to go on to the next round as the game finished Town 6-7 to Wolfe Tone. Goal scorers were John Moorehouse 4, Ryan Boyce and Harrison Okungbowa. Well done Ian, James and the lads. The last game of the year for the club was a local derby for the U-10s against Rovers and after a very close game and a few missed chances they were unlucky to lose 1-0.

On January 1 the club is holding a Football Fundraiser on the all-weather pitch in East Glendalough School for all teams from U-8s through to the first team, kick off at 2pm.

May ye all have a safe and happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

With the U-14s game away to Ashford Rovers been a victim of the weather none of our teams saw any action last weekend.

All leagues will now have their Christmas break and no doubt our managers and coaches will be organising friendlies after Christmas to get their teams back in the groove for the challenges of 2013.

The Wicklow League and MGL League seasons will recommence for most teams on the week-ending of Saturday 5/Sunday 6 January 2013.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our players, coaches, parents, opponents and referee's a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Likewise we wish the executive committees of both the Wicklow and MGL Leagues the very best for the festive period.

Special mention to four players from the U-12s, namely Ciara Dease, Alannah Melia, Ciaran Keogh and James Crean who are all part of the U12s County Development squad. Ciara was part of the county squad last weekend as the team lost 2-1 to North Dublin in the first game of the InterLeague series.

Everyone in the club sends their best wishes to Alannah who is currently sidelined with a foot injury which will keep her out of action until January and we all hope she will be back in action very soon. On the birthday front a couple of our players celebrate a birthday in the coming weeks and they are Ryan Clarke from the U-8s and Jordan Simwawa from the U-14s. Happy birthday guys from everyone at Newtown Juniors F.C.

We will be holding our Christmas Draw on December 22 in the Mountkennedy Inn.

Tickets are currently in circulation and are €5 euro for a book of three, so please support. All tickets sold must be back with the respective teams coaches or any committee member by Friday December 21. For all other queries/matters relating to the club contact Hughie at 087-6987653 or visit our website and you can also find us on Facebook.

Both our teams games last weekend fell victim of the weather and with the break now for the festive period upon us the league closes down and recommences on Sunday 6th January 2013.

Happy to say both our teams are well in contention for honours this season and 2013 promises to be an exciting year on the playing front.

Newtown United F.C. wishes to extend their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Briget Donohoe from O'Neill Park who sadly passed away last week. May she rest in peace.

As the countdown to Christmas began it was a very quiet weekend on the football front for Arklow Town FC.

Saturday morning saw our U-10A team travel to take on Greystones Utd FC and after a hard fought battle it was the home side that narrowly edged a 2-1 victory despite a superb goal from Owen Moore.

Back at Lamberton the U-15 National Cup squad had a tremendous victory over the Kill Celtic FC. The visitors struggled to come to grips with The Town's pace and skill and goals from Liam Scales, Calem Devereux, Jake Byrne, Stewart Mills and Cal Kelly saw the U-15s become the third team this year to make it through to the last 32 of this great competition - a fantastic accomplishment.

A host of Arklow Town FC players were also involved in Wicklow County duty last weekend as the SFAI Inter-League Competitions kicked off in Greystones. The U-12 team suffered a 2-1 defeat to the NDSL with the U-13 squad earning a deserved 1-1 draw.

Congratulations to Sean Crowley, Joshua Mills, Eoin O'Neill, Thomas Lynch, Daniel Bruce, Jack O'Reilly, Callum Randall, Liam Moore and Ben Fennell who participated on the U-12 panel and to Tom Murphy, Richard O'Toole, David Kealy, Darragh Walker, Liam Coleman, Matthew Dempsey, Conor Breslin, Kian Bolger, Andrew Maher, Nathan Cullen, Shane Keenan, Jack Healy, Tom Somers and Finn Fortune who have been selected for the U-13 squad.

A tremendous achievement for the players and for The Town.

There were still plenty of things happening in our busy club with the draw for the annual Christmas Raffle taking place on Friday night. A huge success this year, thanks to the hard work of our fundraising committee and "Kenny's of the Harbour" who not only supplied us with a great venue but surprised us by donating an additional ten spot prizes on the night to ensure there were plenty to go around.

Congratulations to all the prize-winners and a special thank you to everyone who supported the Christmas Raffle.

If the mammies need a little break before Christmas, don't forget the Club Junior Christmas Disco which takes place next Sunday (23rd December) in the Clubhouse at Lamberton.

It is for boys and girls between 8 and 12 years of age and you do not have to be a member of the club to attend. All are welcome. The event is fully supervised and has a free mineral bar – all from just €2.00. You can drop your child up at 6.00pm and collect them at 8.00pm sharp.

And finally this week - watch out for the brand new Arklow Town FC Website which is due to launch any day now. The Club has got together with Eamon O'Connor of Rolling Toad Design who has tailored a fantastic new site specifically for the club with news, fixtures, results, match reports and lots more.

The site will also be linked to the club's Facebook and Twitter accounts to make logging on to our social sites much easier. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for updates.
