Pitch and putt children's playoff

Project: The Final of the Projects took place in Barndarrig NS on Sunday 17th February. Well done to all the teams, they had put alot of thought and work into their projects. Thanks to Sheila Driver and Ellen Nolan for judging these projects and for giving the competitors helpful tips and ideas. Thanks too to Barndarrig NS for the use of the school.

Cross country running: training continues every Wed from 4.30pm – 5.30 in Cullen Park Redcross. Cost €1per family. All Welcome. County finals will take place in Avondale on Monday evening 25th March for anyone wishing to compete. Names need to be with Jackie by 20th February. Swimming: If you are interested in taking part in swimming please register with Martina Makin on 087 204 5349 before February 24th . The swimming event will take place on Saturday March 2nd in the Arklow Coral Leisure Pool.

Skittles: BBKR area Skittles final will take place on Sunday 24th February at 3pm (Weather permitting!). Venue will be Brittas Bay National School and charge will be €2 per child. Competition is open to boys and girls living in the BBKR Area. Children must be at least 8 yrs of age to be eligible to participate and age groups are U10, U12, U14 and U16. Table Quiz: Table Quiz will take place on 22nd February in Barndarraig National school. Teams to be made up of four at a cost of €1 per child.

Those taking part should be at school for 7.40 pm on evening of 22nd and quiz will commence at 8pm sharp. Please arrive early as once quiz starts no late comers will be allowed to take part. Contact Shiela Crowley on 086 8381350 for further inforation.


Good Start

Enniskerry Ladies Gaelic team had a good run out against Stars of Erin last weekend in preparation for their season ahead which gets underway in 3 weeks time. Training continues on Friday nights in Pairc na Sillogue. Congratulations to Tara Costelloe who lined out for Wicklow in the National League game against Leitrim.


The new home for Enniskerry Darts team in the Boro League will hopefully bring them a change of luck on Monday nights and a few wins to keep them in the top flight for the coming year.


The County Finals of Scor (Senior/ Adults ) takes place on March 2nd in Roundwood at 7.30 pm. The local Enniskerry GAA Club are competing and are looking for Irish and Set Dancers, Singers , Quiz Team etc contact Liam at 0868185 944 for more details.


The Enniskerry walkers are at home this Saturday leaving from Windsors Spar opposite Town Clock at 1.30pm for Enniskerry Way from Bog Meadow via Knoksink, Ballybrew to Kilmolin and back to the village.

Good Win

Enniskerry YC had a good win in the Leinster on Sunday coming out on top by a 3-2 scoreline. Everyone involved were delighted with the success and are hoping for sustained run of wins for the rest of the season.

Active Retirees

March is again going to be busy for the Members of Enniskerry Active Retirees with Monthly Chat and Chew ,the AGM and the selling of tickets for their Easter Raffle.

Irish Dancing

The local Finnerty Irish School of Dancing is making great progress with numbers learning the great National steps . Children from 4 years upwards are welcome to join the classes on Saturday mornings at 10.30 am.

History Society

Last Thursday night the Enniskerry History Society, which meets under the guidance of its President John Callan, began its meeting in the Powerscourt Arms Hotel with observing a minute's silence to the late Tom Dodd, Shankill, who died in January and was good friend and supporter of the Society. In addition to giving a number of talks to the Society down through the years, Tom was also the designer and artist of the distinctive Enniskerry History Society letterhead logo used to advertise its activities.

Guest speaker for last Thursday's meeting was Frank Tracey who presented his lecture ' After the Ball Was Over: The last days of the Anglo-Irish Ascendancy.'

Members of the Enniskerry History Society have been invited to tomorrow (Thursday) night's meeting of the Bray Cualann Historical Society at 8 pm in the Bray Chamber of Commerce House, Quinboro Road, Bray, at which Michael Corcoran will present his lecture on ' Buses to Bray ' - all welcome to attend - admission €4.

Remaining lectures in the Enniskerry History Society's Spring 2013 Programme are : Thursday March 14th - ' Christmas in County Wicklow 100 Years Ago (1912) ' by James Scannell; Thursday April 11th - ' The Poor Harvest and Bad Winter 1947 ' by Padraig Laffan ; concluding on Thursday May 9th with ' The Remarkable Story of F/Lt. Genealogy Roadshow

On Saturday March 2nd RTE presenter Derek Mooney and the Roadshow's history and genealogical experts will be at Powerscourt House at 12 .30 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. at which the experts will give advice to the public on how to trace a family history. Also congratulations to the following players who have made the MGL Academy squads for this season, Aisling McDonald, Chelsee Snell & Katie Miley are on the Under 15's squad while Lucie Ashmore & Cliona Crammond have made the Under 16's squad. A number of other girls were in contention at the assessments but didn't make it this time but they just need to keep performing well and no doubt their time will come.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Under 18's player Sinead Horgan who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury and we all hope she's back in action very soon.

Newtown United F.C. would like to extend their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jim McGovern from Bray who sadly passed away last week. Jim was a referee in the Wicklow League for many years and in latter years was a referee assessor in the county. May he rest in peace.

There was no winner in our Members Draw this week so the jackpot rolls over again and goes to €400 for next week. Thank you for your continued support.
