Blessington claimed the ladies Senior 'B' title with a nerve-jangling victory over an unlucky AGB side at Roundwood last Saturday evening. Roisin Ellis and Jess Brennan were the west team's heroes, combining for a superb 11 points of the overall total.

AGB were first on the board with Anne Marie Keegan pointing after terrific hassling and harrying by full-forward Grace Hurley dispossessed the Blessington defence.

Blessington took over after this with Ellen Quinn, Ellis and Brennan hitting three on the bounce. Blessington's centre back Anna Vas was having a fine game with her marauding runs causing the AGB defence all kinds of trouble.

It was from such a carry that Vas found Molly Cullen close to goal, she transferred onto Quinn who rattled the Arklow net from an acute angle.

Erin King added another point as it looked like Blessington were going to pull away. However, Keegan and Roisin O'Reilly responded for the brave AGB side and when the impressive Hurley found captain Jess McElheron close to the goal and she unleashed a thunderbolt past county goalkeeper Kim Connors the lead was back to the minimum.

Minutes later Keegan galloped at the Blessington defence again before offloading to McElheron and she slotted home to put AGB into the lead.

Shauna Byrne and Brennan tied it back up for the west women. AGB closed out the first half scoring with points from O'Reilly and McElheron.

The second period saw Blessington come out all guns blazing, and they scored the first four points as they appeared to be getting on top all over the park. However, out of nowhere Keegan got on the end of an Eve Rogers pass and blasted past Connors to restore the Arklow lead.

The game was nip and tuck till the end with pride and passion on full display.

Ellis levelled it up before Brennan put Blessington in front with a superb left-footed effort from distance after Ellis had turned provider.

AGB had much possession at this stage but overelaboration and failing to take a shot was hindering their chances. O'Reilly did tie it up from a free with five to go.

It was to be the clinical duo at the other end who pushed Blessington over the line though. Firstly, Ellis pointed a free from the left then Brennan pointed from the right for a bit of breathing space.

O'Reilly did point to narrow it again however the Blessington rearguard stood strong in the closing moments for a hard-earned victory.

A riveting game start to finish. AGB with a bit of guile and more confidence in front of goal could easily have won. Ann Marie Keegan and Grace Hurley were outstanding for them.

For Blessington, Brennan and Ellis take the plaudits with their impressive scoring, however centre back Anna Vas was player of the match. She was a bundle of energy throughout and her rampaging runs up field more often than not led to scores.
