Woodview Park roads proposal
Proposed road resurfacing works in Woodview Park, Avoca, would have to be funded from discretionary funding, members of Arklow Municipal District heard at their September meeting last week.
Councillors considered a motion asking that the resurfacing of the road is included in future plans. The district had also been asked to consider if further car parking can be facilitated by cutting into the green area in the estate.
John Bowes, Arklow Municipal District District Engineer, told the members that the road was in 'fair to poor condition' and considered adequate for residential needs. He said that resurfacing works would not be a priority under Department of Transport schemes.
He said that the works could be considered for discretionary funding, at an estimated cost of €42,000. He added that the district preferred not to remove green spaces.
Cllr Fitzgerald asked that the project be proposed for discretionary funding. Cllr Pat Kennedy (FF) suggested there was a need to replace posts in a road barrier in the estate. Cllr Tommy Annesley (FF) noted that traffic in the estate increased when there was a game on in the football field. Cllr Sylvester Bourke (FG) added that Woodview Park had been ear-marked for a revamp before the crash, which had caused disappointment for residents when it did not occur.
