Wicklow Gaol to host 1,700 runners
All roads lead to Wicklow Town on Sunday, March 24 for the KBC Wicklow Gaol Break half marathon or 10km.
This will be the biggest Goal Break in history with a sold out 1,700 entries. Runners, joggers and walkers will descend on Wicklow from all over the country and even abroad to enjoy the scenery around Wicklow town. The event has grown into a popular challenge on what is a testing course.
'It's another boost for tourism and businesses locally directly after St Patrick's weekend' said race organiser Eoin Ryan.
The half marathon starts at 10.30 a.m. and the 10km at 10.45 a.m.. Motorists are asked to be patient as there will be some delays on the roads. Expect the Rathnew to Wicklow Town road to be slow for traffic between 10.40 a.m. and 11.15 a.m.
'We encourage locals to come out and cheer on the competitors. That little cheer means everything' added Ryan.
The atmospheric finish line is located at Wicklow's Historic Goal. A section of Kilmartin hill from the bottom to the Convent will be closed from 8.30 a.m. to traffic and cars will be diverted up New street. Results will be published in next weeks edition.
