Unwanted laptops - CoderDojo Roundwood is looking for any unwanted laptops for use in its local Dojo (computer club).

Any laptops donated, no matter what make or age, will be wiped clean of any data thereon and will be reprogrammed to allow children who may not have access to a laptop learn a new skill in this fun environment. Any donations will be greatly appreciated. For further information, please see or


The annual Wicklow and Rathnew pilgrimage to Lourdes takes place from August 30 to September 4 and its spiritual director will be Fr Donal Roche.

Everyone will be staying in the four-star Hotel La Solitude and the cost of the trip is €745, including a €200 deposit per person.

There is a supplement of €180 per person for a single room.

The price includes return transfer to Dublin Airport, return flights from Dublin to Lourdes and five nights' accommodation in the Hotel La Solitude based on sharing a twin room with facilities.

The price will also include all meals for the duration of the stay, free comprehensive insurance, airport taxes, full assistance of a Pilgrimages Abroad rep and a full religious programme while in Lourdes.

All cheques must be made payable to Pilgrimages Abroad.

Personal alarm scheme

The Roundwood and District Community Council are registered to administer the senior alert scheme that provides grants to elderly people towards the provision of personal alarms.

The personal alarm offers reassurance to allow independent living, safe in the knowledge that you can quickly be in contact with a family member or neighbour in the event of any emergency you may have to deal with.

Pilates classes are now running in Glenealy Village Hall on Tuesday evenings from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Beginners/improvers and all ages are welcome.

The cost for seven weeks is €70 or a drop-in-rate of €12. Pilates strengthens core muscles, improves muscle control, flexibility, co-ordination, strength and tone, as well as alignment and breathing.


Badminton classes are on Monday evenings in the Brockagh Resource Centre at 7 p.m. (junior 4th class up) with seniors from 8 p.m. On Thursday evenings, there is a repeat of the same classes. Contact Finian on 086 247 6822.

Visitor access plans

Proposed Glendalough and Laragh access plans are still available to view in the lobby of the Brockagh Resource Centre. Following last Tuesday's public meeting, an extension to submit any concerns from the community may now be emailed to before 12 p.m. on June 20, 2019. There are substantial changes to the restructuring of the area and it would be in everyone's interest to view the proposed plans before works commence.

Car boot sale

The next Roundwood Car Boot sale will be on Sunday, June 23 and every fourth Sunday of the month thereafter. Set up of stalls from 9a.m. Cars: €10; jeep/van: €15.

Barn dance and barbecue

A date for your diary. Moneystown barn dance and barbecue will take place on Saturday, June 29, starting at 8 p.m. until late.

Fully licensed, fabulous food and great country music provided by Paul Molloy and The Whole Hog. So look up your stetson and grab your dancing shoes and come along to this great night.

Rathdrum Tidy Towns

All team members of Rathdrum Tidy Towns and volunteers meet in the Market Square, Rathdrum every Monday evening at 7 p.m. Anyone who wishes to join in or help in any way is very welcome. Rathdrum reached a good standard last year and the local Tidy Towns aim to keep up the good work and do even better this year.

Plenary Meeting

County Wicklow PPN are inviting community groups to the first 2019 Plenary Meeting themed 'Let's tell our stories and preserve our heritage.'

The meeting will be held in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh on Thursday, June 20 at 7.30 p.m.

Hear from the Heritage Office of Wicklow County Council and the National Museum of Ireland about existing and upcoming opportunities for communities to record, preserve and share their local heritage.

Free digital skills course

An ongoing free five-week digital skills computer course is due to take place at the Brockagh Resource Centre, which is currently taking names for the next course (depending on numbers) due to commence in the summer. It usually takes place on Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Topics covered include online banking, apps, online government services, email, shopping online, online TV players, podcasts, photographs, security and much more.

This course is for complete beginners or someone who is rarely online and wants to upskill. You will need to bring your own laptop/tablet to the course. Call the Brockagh Resource Centre on 0404 45600 or email

Dance school

Elevation School of Performing Arts performed their annual end-of-year show in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh on Saturday, May 25 to packed-out audiences for two shows.

Teachers Katie Charles and Kerry Smith and principal Kate O'Connor were thrilled by their students' progress and audiences were also entertained by the Elevation Dance Team who performed a range of routines from their repetoire. The dance team is an intensively trained group of dancers aged from 8-20 who compete at national level and hold many titles.

The team are hosting a workshop with West End star Adam Garcia. As well as this, in August the dance team will travel to Disneyland Paris to perform in their very own show on a Disney stage.

Audition dates for new members of the team will be announced in September for anyone wishing to join this dedicated group. Meanwhile, weekly ESPA classes will return in September offering ballet, modern, musical theatre, Speech 7 Drama and Acro dance.

Roundwood trip

There will be a trip to Scotland from Roundwood leaving on July 26 for six days until July 31. Part of the trip will include the Highlands of Scotland and the Orkney Isles, Perth, Thurso, Inverness, Loch Lomond, Loch Ness and Glencoe and many more places at a cost of €750 per person all in.

The Westport Country six-day break takes place from October 20 to October 25 at a cost of €425.

Acts performing will include Robert Mizzell, Stuart Moyles and Declan Nerny among others. Dinner, bed and breakfast at Westport Woods Hotel and daily coach tours with one day off.

Gymboree play and music classes are on every Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. in Glenealy Village Hall. Suitable for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers from six months to four years.

Teach your child a love of music through song, dance, movement fun and musical instruments, exploring various different music styles.

Glenealy concert

An end-of-year concert with pupils from first to sixth class of St Joseph's NS, along with their music teacher James Dunne, will take place in Glenealy Village Hall on Wednesday, June 12, starting at 11 a.m.

A cake sale will also take place on the morning. Come along and have tea or coffee and cake while enjoying some great music and singing from the band.

All money raised from donations on the morning will go to the school. All are welcome.

Youth club

Glenealy Foróige youth club is in Glenealy Village hall every Friday night from 8 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. for youths aged 12 years to 18 years.
